Create Your Own Convertible Windscreen

Measuring Your Windscreen

To measure the windscreen for your car, you need seven measurements;

A: (1) Width and (2) Height
B: (3) Slot 1 position, relative to edge, (4) Slot 2 position, relative to edge, and (5) Slot 1 & 2 positions, relative to perpedicular edge
C: (6) Radius of top corner and (7) Radius of bottom corner

A) Measurements 1 and 2: Width and Height

Width:

The width of the windscreen be within the gap from the outside edge of the seats, to the edge of interior wall.  That is, the minimum width should be from the outside edge of the driver's seat, to the outside edge of the passenger seat.  The maximum width should be from within an inch from the edge of the driver's interior wall, all the way to within an inch from the edge of the passenger interior wall.

Height:

2A) On the top side, add a couple of inches to the top of the headrest.  It is very important to make sure this measurement is not so tall that it interferes with putting the top up.  That is, with the windscreen remaining in place, you should be able to raise and lower the top cover.  Provide at least 2 inches of clearance between the top of the windscreen, to the top of the car.

2B) On the bottom side, measure down to the desired depth.  Typically, this ranges from the shoulders to the elbow, around 12-24 inches.

B) Measurements 3, 4, and 5: Slot Position

The straps weave through the slots, which then wrap onto the headrests.  There are two different seat types, supporting three different configurations.  For more information, see How It Attaches.

1B) Adjustable headrests that slide up and down on posts, with vertical strap alignment.

From the outside edge, the slot should be positioned in the center of the headrest.  From the top edge, the slot should be positioned slightly above, and slightly below, the headrest.

2B) Adjustable headrests that slide up and down on posts, with horizontal strap alignment

From the outside edge, the slots should be positions slightly outside the headrests posts.  From the top edge, the slots should be positioned slightly underneath the headrest.

3B) Bucket seats, with integrated headrests

The slot should be positioned about 35% of the way down, measuring from the top of the seat.

C) Measurements 6 and 7: Top and Bottom Corner Radiuses

The top corner is usually tighter, around two inches.  The bottom corner is larger, usually around the size of a tea-cup saucer, about four inches
